Everything the tool does, and how to use it

The Science of Teams analysis tool is software that runs the full TSoT method on a team you care about. You draw your team as a working system (the roles, the systems they operate in, and the value that moves between them) and mark where that value is created, lost, blocked, or contradicted. The tool reads the structure you built and produces a rigorous analysis: it names the solution models from the framework that structurally apply to your situation, locates them against your own labels, and points to where the highest-leverage change is likely to be found.

It is the framework made operational. Everything it produces is grounded in the published method and in the diagram you drew. It is your analysis, made rigorous, repeatable, and shareable.

That is the entire path from purchase to working: subscribe, paste your key, and you are drawing. Everything you create is saved automatically as you go.

The canvas is where you build your team as a system. You place elements, connect them with value flows, and tag them with the qualities that matter. It is a drawing surface built specifically around the framework's structures, so everything you place maps directly onto the analysis.

Working on the canvas is direct and visual:

• Add elements for the roles, systems, subsystems, and zones that make up your team.
• Draw value flows between them to show how output, information, and effort move through the system.
• Name everything in your own words. The labels you use are the labels the analysis reads back to you.
• Tag the tensions to mark where value is created, where it is lost, and where two goals pull against each other.

Every change is saved as you make it, so your work is always preserved. You can rename a project, keep several projects side by side, and return to any of them at any time.

The tool uses the framework's own vocabulary, so what you draw lines up exactly with what the method analyzes. There are two things to work with: the elements you place, and the tags you apply to them.

Elements

Role

A person or function that acts within the team.

System

An organized arrangement of roles producing output that has value.

Subsystem

A component inside a larger system.

Zone

A region of the diagram that groups related elements.

Value flow

The movement of output, information, or effort between elements.

Tags

Tags mark the qualities the framework reasons about: value and benefit, cost and harm, need, contradiction, the things a role cannot control, and the Ideal Final Result you are aiming toward. You apply the tags you see; the tool reads them back as the raw material of the analysis.

Once your diagram captures the team, the tool analyzes it against the full library of solution models in the framework. It looks at the structure you built, how elements connect, where the tensions sit, what is tagged as a cost or a contradiction, and identifies the models that structurally apply to your situation.

For each model it surfaces, the analysis:

• Names the model and shows why it fits, in terms of the structure you drew.
• Locates it against your own element labels, so the finding is anchored in your team, not an abstraction.
• Presents the framework's own text for that model, so you are reading the method itself, not a paraphrase.
• Points to leverage, showing where, given the structure, the highest-value change is likely to be found.

The result is a prioritized set of good places to start, each tied to a real, named pattern in the framework and to the specific part of your diagram it applies to. It is rigorous in the way the method is rigorous: given the same diagram, the analysis reaches the same conclusions.

With one click, the tool assembles a complete, illustrated document from your analysis, a polished deliverable you can bring to a meeting, send to a colleague, or keep as the record of where your thinking started.

The document includes:

• A cover and clean, sectioned layout in the Science of Teams design.
• Your team diagram, rendered into the document.
• Each applicable solution model, with the framework's illustration and its own text.
• Where each model fits your specific situation, in plain language.

It is a finished, professional artifact, the kind of thing that makes the analysis tangible for a team and turns a diagram into a conversation.

Every analysis lives in its own project. You can keep as many projects as you like (one per team, one per scenario, one per iteration) and switch between them freely. Each is saved automatically and waits for you exactly as you left it.

Your projects follow you across your devices. Sign in on your office computer and your home machine, and you see the same projects in both places, because your work is tied to your account rather than to any one device. A single subscription covers use on more than one device, so you can work wherever you are.

When you set up a new device, you simply paste your license key there once. From your account you can see the devices you are signed in on and free one up whenever you like, for a new laptop, say, putting you fully in control of where the tool is active.

Your account page, reachable from inside the tool, shows your plan, your status, and the devices you are signed in on. From there you can sign out or manage your devices at any time.

Payments, invoices, and your subscription itself are handled securely by Freemius, our billing partner. From your Freemius account you can update your payment method, download invoices, or change your subscription whenever you need to, all behind your own secure sign-in, where your payment details are kept safe.
